Spooky Vibrations

I'm sorry that I haven't been posting much this week, but I've just gotten over a nasty cold. Thanks to those of you who commented on my 1 year anniversary post. I really appreciated the kind words, especially since I wasn't feeling great.

I wanted to let you know that I have reposted the links from last years Halloween post here. While these songs aren't Halloween in the traditional sense, I'm sure they will fit nicely alongside the other spooky sounds in today's post.

Also, you can sample selections from these three releases in My Box player on the left of the page. Please let me know what you think of the Box.

Kid Stuff Repertory Theater "Mostly Ghostly" [Kid Stuff, 1962]

In 1977, Kid Stuff released an intensely experimental Halloween sound effects album called "Mostly Ghostly. " The cover is very deceptive in that it looks like a Halloween record aimed at little children. What you get instead is a demented spookfest filled with bubbling and gurgling sounds, funereal organs, screeching feral kittens and moaning phantoms. This is really not that different from the experimental noise found on a Throbbing Gristle or Nurse With Wound record. Listen with caution and be prepared for an assault on your senses.

Spooky Sounds-S/T- [Sounds Records, 1962]

"Spooky Sounds" was released in 1962 by the Sounds Records company from Glendale, CA. This was a Halloween sound effects record with laughing goblins, howling dogs and footsteps with chains. However it also has several tracks featuring a spooky theremin with campy titles such as "Banshee Love Call" and "Dinner Music For a Monster". Perfect music for scaring the hell out of one another. Highly recommended!

Boris Karloff- Tales of the Frightened Vol.1 [Mercury 1963]

"Tales of the Frightened Vol.1" was released in 1963 on Mercury Records, and it featured the ever creepy voice of Boris Karloff reading ghost stories over avant garde electronic blips and squelches. This is perfect for listening to while sitting by the open fire anxiously awaiting trick-or-treaters.

I'll be back with more spooky downloads tomorrow.
