I Hear a New World- Podcast #5

The fifth episode of I Hear a New World is available to be downloaded at:

http://ihearanewworld.podOmatic.com

Due to the space limitations on Podomatic, I will have no other choice but to delete the oldest podcast each week to make room for the new episodes. Today I removed the Sonic Youth episode, but it will be available to download from Eclectic Grooves in the near future.

This week's episode showcases the psychedelic soul sound of the 70's that was heavily influenced by Sly and the Family Stone and Jimi Hendrix. Aside from Parliament and James Brown, the artists featured on this episode are veritable unknowns in the music world. Some of the tracks were taken from albums that are no longer in print, and the rest are only available at an expensive import price. It took me most of the week to compile the songs and do further research on the artists for this week's episode. I hope you enjoy the show!

hi Kevin, just by looking at the tracklist of your Psychedelic Soul Nuggets (podcast#5) I know this is a GREAT sounding comp!!! Only the ones taken from the Chains And Black Exhaust compilation are new to me; what is this comp???
To get to the point of your refusal over at Sounds From the Edge of the Universe, I'll contact Gary directly so he'll be back to you, OK? A few nasty things happened (like over mine DMCA-wise) so they lay low for a bit...
peace, E-mile

Thnaks for stopping by, man! The Chains and Black Exhaust comp was released in a limited run of 1000 copies in 2002. As far as I can tell, it's out of print. I have seen it avaialable as an expensive import for more than 40 dollars, though. I would post the whole thing on here, but it has already been posted on Crotchbat and Chris Goes Rock. Make sure to actually download the podcast if you want to keep it because I have to remove the podcasts to make room for new ones.

Thanks for the heads up about Sounds From the Edge of the Universe. I don't understand why so many blogs are coming under the atttack of DMCA when they are only featuring things that are out-of-print. Anyway, I was just wondering if I was singled out as someone who couldn't view the site, or that they were just closing the blog for a short time.

Best, Kevin

Oh hell yeah!!! XLNT selections, especially the Freddie Terrell track. I heard that one on Downtown Soulville a couple of years back and was totally floored! It'll be good to hear that one again. Keep up the good work and of course, I'll be subscribing to your new site...

Peace and blessings.

Vincent,

Great to hear from you, man! I'm glad you are diggin' the podcast selections. I figured that it would be right up your alley. I've never heard of Downtown Soulville. Who are some of the other artists on that compilation?

Thanks for subscribing to the site, and please let anyone else know about the podcast that you think might dig it. My ranking goes up on Podomatic if I get a higher number of unique visitors. They say that the best way to achieve more unique visitors is to ask listeners to click on the'send to a friend' link on my podcast page. I would like to get a larger listening base for the show to share the music with a larger population.

Anyway, the episodes are going to be pretty varied, but I will definitely be mixing in a fair amount of hip-hop, soul, funk and jazz pretty regularly.

Peace and blessings to you!

Kevin

Hey kev,
Listened to this last night. Right up my alley musically. Really like the commentary between songs. one question: Curly Davis and the Uniques might be on the Because You're Funky Comp and not the Chains And Black Exhaust Comp. Not sure but you may wanna check. Good Job!
