I Hear a New World Podcast- Record Store Day Edition

Image
The latest edition of I Hear a New World is available for download here, and at http://ihearanewworld.podomatic.com/. This podcast largely focuses on the records that I pickd up at this year's Record Store Day . Even though Record Store Day has been going on for four years now, this was the first time that I was actually able to attend. Among the gems that I was able to snag are new 7 inches from Deerhunter and Lower Dens, full lengths from Sonic Youth and Akron Family and many other limited pressings recorded especially for Record Store Day . To round out the sound, I have included a couple of other records that weren't Record Store Day purchases. Record Store Day podcast 1) Jimi Hendrix- Touch You 2) Sonic Youth- Personality Crisis 3) Deerhunter- Nosebleed 4) Akron Family- Untitled 5) MF Doom- Gas Drawls 6) Can- Father Cannot Yell 7) SJOB Movement- No One Cares 8) Thee Oh Sees- The Drag 9) Lower Dens- Deer Knives 10) Grinderman- Palaces of Montezuma 11) Bla...

Back From the Ether

Wow, I don't even know where to begin here. Lately, one thing or another has intervened into my life that has prevented me from posting on the blog.  I apologize to those of you who have been yearning for that latest taste of  rare choice cuts coming straight from the vinyl market.  One development is that I experienced some problems with my Podomatic account, and I had to delete most of my podcasts for the lack of server space available. However, I hope to be able to archive these podcasts soon on Eclectic Grooves so those of you who still wish to check out the older podcasts can do this at will. Aside from this, I have been seriously thinking about what direction to take the blog in because it doesn't seem to be generating the same type of interest that it did when I first started the blog. I have realized that the main thing that has changed since I started the blog is my available time and space to write new posts.  Because I was u...

Plain Brown Wrappers #10- The Epiphany

Image
First things first. During the month of January, The I Hear a New World podcast has exceeded the monthly quota of 15 Gigs alotted by Podomatic for the basic subscription. While this a fantastic thing, it also means that readers won't be able to partake in listening to the podcast until the quota is reset on January 31st. I wish I could upgrade to the "Pro" subscription, but I just don't have the financial resources to do this right now. One thing that puzzles me is that, while my show has exceeded the monthly bandwidth quota for the first time, it has not exactly been one of the highest rated podcasts on Podomatic this month.  I have noticed that you can still listen to the most recent podcasts uploaded on Eclectic Grooves, but the entire archive of I Hear a New World  will be inaccessible until January 31st. I am told that those who try to listen to the podcast until this date receive the following message basically asking listeners to do...

Best Albums of 2010 Part 2

Hopefully, I've whet your appetite for adventurous music with the first installment of my picks for the Best Albums of 2010. Judging by the comments, at least some of the artists featured in the first part of the list were new to the readers.  My only hope in doing these lists is that I am able to turn some of you on to music that you haven't heard of yet. With that being said, let's get on to the second installment of the Best Albums of 2010. Please drop a comment to let me know what albums and artists made your list in 2010. 21) Eddy Current Suppression Ring - Rush to Relax You wouldn't expect that a gang of office workers who met at a Christmas office party would be capable of producing the ecstatic, adrenaline-fueled garage punk of Rush to Relax. But the off-the-rails vocal delivery of Eddy Current combined with the blistering guitar solos of Brendan Suppression help make this an album worth revisit...

Best Albums of 2010

I know that I promised to have this list up in the middle of December, and I had every intention on following through with this goal. Unfortunately, this was not to be, as I received news that my grandmother has passed away at the age of 99. She lived a great deal longer than any of my family ever imagined in our wildest dreams, and she passed on without feeling any pain. When I saw my mom's name on the caller ID on my cell phone, I could just feel it in my bones that my grandmother had passed away. There are some things that I have an instictual feeling about, and this proved to be true. It was bittersweet to hear that she had passed on. Sweet, because she had been ready to go for a couple years, and bitter because it is always hard to lose someone that you care about. I dedicate the year of 2010 to my grandmother whose spirit lives within me. Because I needed to fly across the country to attend my grandmother's funeral service, and drive back with a generous, unexpected gift ...
