Summer Mix 2014

It's once again time for the annual summer mix on Eclectic Grooves. This time around, the tracks were compiled from various sources:  a summer funk mix on mixcloud, a few recommendations from a DJ friend of mine and several selections that barely missed the cut on last year's summer mix.   Overall, this mix is way more funkdafied than previous ones, with small servings of rock, African high-life, reggae and hip-hop to balance out the proceedings.

As usual, my hope was to post this mix much earlier in the summer, but at least you will have the entire month of August to enjoy these savory summer jams. If there is anyone who still checks out Eclectic Grooves, I would love to hear what you guys think of this year's mix.

Well, I am not posting as much as I should/would....but after a while lotta of other things get in the way...
General living for example [:-)
Also the blog community has changed a lot since i started in 2007...
Some mixes have well over 550 downloads and zilch comments. (same old same old, I know).
But still some of the old e-friends still stay in contact over email, private blogs and other places.
I will keep occasionally post new stuff, hope you feel the need to do so every now and than too [:-)

MF DOOM: Spell his name with ALL CAPS

According to sources close to the legendary rapper/producer MF DOOM, he died on 10/31/20.  His family has chosen to keep this news private until now, and the cause of death has yet to be disclosed.Below is a screenshot of the heartfelt dedication from Doom's Instagram account posted by his wife Jasmine. I am completely gutted, and am hardly able to string words together for this post. Doom's material throughout the early years as Zev Love X with KMD, to the last two decades spent with the alter egos of MF Doom, King Geedorah, Viktor Vaughan and Metal Fingers has thoroughly enriched my life. Madvillainy , his unprecedented collaboration with Madlib in 2004, will go down as one of the best records in the history of hip-hop. Doom's style is difficult to pinpoint, as he was able to rap fast with a slow, booming baritone, while delivering his lines in a cadence that was like no other before him. He made what he was doing seem effortless, but he was undoubtedly giving it his all.
