Sinister Sounds from the Crypt


















I am happy to say that this year I am ahead of schedule for once, so you will have at least a week to listen to this year's Halloween mix. This time around, you can expect to hear a diverse assortment of rockabilly,  doo-wop, blues, rock and soul interspersed with snatches of old horror film trailers and spooky noisescapes. I worked on this for many hours this past weekend, and I believe that I have constructed a mix that will be perfect for scaring the bejeesus out of those trick-or treaters beating down your door.

For those of you would like a tracklist for this year's Halloween mix, I will be happy to provide this to you upon request.

Oh, and I almost forgot to mention that Eclectic Grooves celebrated it's 5th birthday yesterday. It's hard to believe that it's been this long, but I've really had a blast sharing thoughts with the readers about new musical discoveries throughout the past 5 years. Here's to 5 more!

This will likely be the last post from me before Halloween, so with that I wish you all a Happy Halloween!

Hi Kevin. Just been listening to this again, its great stuff. I've a question about the Demon Lover track. I can't find this version online, any info on it? YouTube has Lynn Cornell singing a slower version. It's a great tune, and I'm intrigued now!

MF DOOM: Spell his name with ALL CAPS

According to sources close to the legendary rapper/producer MF DOOM, he died on 10/31/20.  His family has chosen to keep this news private until now, and the cause of death has yet to be disclosed.Below is a screenshot of the heartfelt dedication from Doom's Instagram account posted by his wife Jasmine. I am completely gutted, and am hardly able to string words together for this post. Doom's material throughout the early years as Zev Love X with KMD, to the last two decades spent with the alter egos of MF Doom, King Geedorah, Viktor Vaughan and Metal Fingers has thoroughly enriched my life. Madvillainy , his unprecedented collaboration with Madlib in 2004, will go down as one of the best records in the history of hip-hop. Doom's style is difficult to pinpoint, as he was able to rap fast with a slow, booming baritone, while delivering his lines in a cadence that was like no other before him. He made what he was doing seem effortless, but he was undoubtedly giving it his all.
